COST: The tuition for the academy is $800.00. The cost to attend the Refresher Course will be $350.00.

We are pleased to provide the following items to attending recruits:

• .40 caliber and shotgun ammunition (other caliber ammunition must be provided  by sponsoring agency, minimum of 2500 rounds are required)
• PT uniforms
• If there is enough demand for the 45-hour POST Corrections Course at the conclusion of the Basic Academy, it will be offered
• Lunch each class day
• Dorm room availability (see below)
  

Please note that additional paperwork is required to attend the Refresher Course, and POST must approve all Refresher Course Applicants. Please contact this office should your agency have an officer that needs to attend a Refresher Course, 318-965-3525.

INSTRUCTOR: All instructors at the academy are POST-certified and FBI/IDC-certified. Adjunct instructors have both experience and academic credentials that enhance their instructional efforts.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The academy also features a running track, a 30-station firing range, tiered classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, a driving/shooting simulator, a five-story rappelling tower, and a full-service kitchen. Physical training will be a component of the academy, but it will be constructive and incrementally-designed. The physical fitness entry requirement for Bossier Parish Sheriff's personnel is 10% on the Cooper Scale. There is no physical fitness entry requirement for outside agency personnel. There is no physical fitness exit requirement for any recruit attending the NLCJA; however, participation in the physical fitness program is mandatory for all recruits.

HOUSING: The academy now has dorm rooms available for those officers who live too far to drive back and forth each day. The cost for an officer staying in the dorm will be $250.00 each for the entire length of the academy. Dorm rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The total cost for an officer attending the academy AND staying in the dorm will be $1050.00 each. Call the academy at 318-965-3525 to reserve dormitory space.

ENROLLMENT: To enroll in the February 17th Basic Academy, please complete the registration packet and return it to the North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy. Checks in the amount of $800 or $1050.00 should accompany the forms and be made payable to the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department. All Original Forms must be received on or before January 31, 2012.

DRESS: Daily dress should be the recruit's agency uniform, devoid of any brass and any type of weapon (knives, chemical agents, etc.). Duty weapons should be left in the parked vehicle until directed by the range staff to retrieve them.
